Spanish Teacher

Dear Hiring Manager:

I would like to be considered for the Certified Spanish/French Teacher position at your school. I am a native Spanish speaker with 16 years of experience teaching Spanish and French as a foreign language. I have taught Spanish in middle and secondary schools in the United States and France and am certified by the New York State Education Department in the area of Spanish, grades 7 to 12; my French certification is pending. Over the years, I have interacted with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and various age groups. I employ creative, interactive teaching methods and work well in groups.
I hold Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Spanish Literature and Civilization and Iberian and Iberian-Latin American Studies, respectively, from the Université de La Sorbonne in France. I spent six years teaching these subjects in France and have spent the past 13 years teaching them in New York. I have been living in New York since 1994, and have dual-citizenship in the United States and France. I grew up in Chile and come from an Iberian-Latin American family background. I am quite creative when it comes to preparing classes and most of all at motivating my students. I encourage active class participation and use group activities to develop social and interpersonal skills. In addition, I can easily adapt to new methods and books, and I am comfortable working with DVDs, computers, and other teaching materials. I also enjoy organizing class and extra-curricular activities to introduce students to the Iberian and Hispanic cultures.
Based on my background, I am confident that I would be a valuable addition to your school. I look forward to engaging students in active learning and creating an atmosphere of mutual respect in the classroom. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this position with you further. Thank you for your consideration.
