Supply Chain Distribution Manager


In the context of introducing myself, I am an experienced supply chain distribution manager seeking employment within central/northern Kentucky.

My last employer corporate office is located in Grand Rapids Michigan. As the director of operations, I was directly responsible for the P&L of six distribution centers in Michigan and California. Given three years to develop a solid on the ground management team and the current company’s financial restraints, I recommended that the company could be without my position for a number of months. While this was the right thing to do for the company, I now want and need to seek a new position.

I have experience within all facets of distribution center operations. I have managed facilities with more than a 1 million sq ft under one roof down to small operations.

My objective now is to seek employment with a more stable company closer to my home that is within a drive of the operation. My home location is slightly more than an hour from southern Cincinnati and eastern Louisville. Lexington is less than an hour drive. These locations are very acceptable to me.

I have 10 years distribution experience in the corporate distribution supply chain supplementing my logistics management masters degree and military distribution experience. A summary below is provided of my career:

My military supply/logistics experience ended as an US Army lieutenant colonel or general manager (commander) of a European distribution center(s). Our fulfillment center received, stored and ship inventory goods for the Defense Logistics Agency (assorted products) and the Defense Commissary Agency (food), The operation was located in several sites with at its height of over 600 German and US civilian employees.

Given some relocation time from Europe, my next employer was Ryder Logistics as the general manager for a 534,000 sq ft general electric appliance parts distribution center. This start up operation has challenges as evidenced by the three general managers prior to me and over 1,500 employees hired/departed (supporting a 400 plus workforce total) in the initial nine months. Given re-organization, systems attention, customer backlog orders prioritization and a reduction of employees, significant savings resulted for a red to black PL results in the first year.

The Ryder Logistics opportunity continued for me as I moved from this position to support a specific sales team targeting Whirlpool Appliance Parts. My operations role on a four person sales team was accumulating, analyzing, and presenting supply chain facts supporting a Ryder’s operating proposal. Specifically, my role included site selection, facility sizing and layout, organization staffing and metrics supporting the right number of employees. This was done to the satisfaction of Whirlpool leadership chain resulting in a $28 million green field project for an 810,000 sq ft facility with approximately 425 employees. I continued in the project manager role of consolidating the Whirlpool six locations and acted as the general manager short periods of time.

My next opportunity with Ryder Logistics was in the role as senior operations for the Ryder Improvement Team. The objective of this supply chain team was on site visits to Ryder major distribution centers identifying cost savings, and best practices. The team accomplished significant results and a Ryder offer for management in Texas was declined desiring instead to stay within my home area and state.

Given some independent consulting opportunities, an offer was extended for a full time position as Director of Operation, Supply Chain Solutions. This Michigan based third party logistics and transportation company operated multi site and client fulfillment facilities in two states. My role included direct communications with all the functions of a fulfillment center from proposals, contracts, IT, material handling equipment, labor, and customer service. Clients include fortune 500 companies to include end customers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Lows, and Bed Bath and Beyond, Linen and Things and others.

These 10 years of direct interface with wholesale, retail and home distribution resulted in several battle scars translating into street smart distribution attributes. My experience support the position requirements for a solid operations background, multi-tasking abilities, and strength to make priority decisions based upon good analytical information for the best results. I consider one of my strong points to be motivating and communicating team results for optimal solutions and execution.
