Judicial Clerk

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am currently a judicial clerk to the Honorable Maurice B. Foley of the U.S. Tax Court and a
2007 Tax LL.M. honors graduate of Northwestern University School of Law. I am familiar with
your firm’s excellent reputation in tax law and would like to apply for an associate position in your tax practice beginning spring 2009.

My interest in tax law began as a J.D. student in Professor Walter Nunnallee’s Advanced Taxation and Taxation of Business Entities where I received the highest grade in both classes. Professor Nunnallee’s infectious passion and enthusiasm for tax inspired me to continue my education at Northwestern’s graduate tax program where I focused on corporate and international taxation.

I believe my diverse work experience will be a positive contribution to your firm. As a senior associate in KPMG’s international corporate tax group, I worked closely with managers and partners on a variety of tax planning issues relating to cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate reorganization. I drafted client and engagement letters, researched and prepared tax memoranda, and created PowerPoint presentations, including organizational charts displaying complex transactions. Furthermore, my clerkship at the Tax Court has allowed me to work on cutting-edge international tax issues such as valuation of intangible property in transfer pricing arrangements. I also gained valuable insight to the Court’s decision-making process as well as familiarity with its rules and procedures. I hope to continue to develop my experience with your firm in all those areas.

I am confident that with my experience and education, I can contribute greatly to your firm. Thank you in advance for your consideration, and I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you.
