Quality Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer

Dear Human Resource Manager,

My name is David Ekola. I have recently returned to Michigan after being out of the country for the past year and a half and I am once again seeking employment. I have worked in the Automotive Industry for over fourteen years in positions ranging from: Manufacturing Engineer, Launch Quality Engineer, Advanced Quality Engineer, Quality Engineer, Layout Team Group Leader, Dimensional Layout Technician and CMM Programmer/Operator. I have extremely strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills. My communications skills, written and verbal have always been a strong point in every position that I have held as I have progressed through my career. My most recent position as a Manufacturing Engineer allowed me to grow on the technical side of my career with constant involvement in continuous improvement projects at our facility utilizing Kaizen events, Lean Manufacturing principles, Value Stream Mapping and 5S with cross functional teams.
Some of the continuous projects that I had recently been involved in have shown very favorable results in a short period of time. On our VN127 Econoline Van Overhead System assembly line, we were able to realize a $10,000 dollar in efficiency improvements on that line through minor process flow changes to the line. We were also working on a missed cycle analysis for that line which resulted in actions that gave us a reduction of missed cycles by 75%. On an additional line that I was responsible for, the P356 F250/F350 Overhead System assembly line, we performed a Kaizen event that resulted in $ 116,000 dollar savings and also allowed us to reduce our days on hand inventory for visors from twenty days to seven. One addition recent project that I worked on was for our EN114 Crown Vic / Grand Marque Overhead System assembly line resulted in $ 56,000 savings by restructuring the assembly line workers’ responsibilities which allowed us to run on one shift instead of with two shifts of assembly.
As a Quality Engineer, Advanced Quality Engineer & Launch Quality Engineer I worked closely with suppliers and the customer (Ford Motor Company in Dearborn Michigan), to ensure the delivery of quality components to our facility as well as to the customer. I was responsible for Supplier development during the Launch phase of product, reviewing and approving the Part Submission Warrant submissions to our facility as well as conducting assessments on high risk suppliers and conducting Supplier Process Sign Offs prior to the supplier shipping production intent product to our facility.
