COVER LETTER FOR:

Chemist / Scientist

Dear Sir/Madam:

I would like to apply for a potential research scientist position in your company. Attached please find a copy of my resume, detailing my accomplishments as a Ph.D. level organic/organometallic chemist.
Currently, I am postdoctoral associate in professor Stephen L. Buchwald’s group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At MIT, I developed a new methodology for efficient intermolecular C–H aminations of unactivated C(sp3)–H bonds using amines as nitrogen sources. Before joining MIT, I worked as a senior research chemist in Process Research at Merck Research Laboratories, Rahway, NJ. During the period at Merck, I developed several practical and efficient synthetic routes that were amenable for scale up in the preparative labs or in the manufacturing setting for three MK projects. In addition, I have gained in-depth training in all aspects of the process research and development. Prior to this, I finished my post-doctoral research in organic chemistry under Prof. James L. Leighton’s supervision at Columbia University, New York. At Columbia, I developed a novel methodology for highly enantioselective reductive aminations of ketone derived hydrazones using novel silicon Lewis acids, which allowed access to many synthetically important chiral amines unavailable via other means. I obtained my Ph.D. in organic chemistry under Prof. Arthur J. Ashe III’s guidance at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. During my Ph.D. program, I focused on the synthesis of novel aromatic heterocycles and related metal complexes that functioned as novel nucleophilic catalysts and molecular switches. I also have experience in natural product isolation and characterization. As a research chemist in Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, the top medical school in China, I isolated and characterized a novel anti-tumor antibiotic: Yunnanmycin.
As you can see, I have in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience of organic, organometallic synthesis and related structural determination and purification methods (NMR, HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, KF, POLARIMETER, etc.). I am highly motivated with a strong working ethics. My productivity is reflected in a number of my publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Sincerely
